York Street Early Education

York Street Early Education is a family owned and managed business. Our early education centre is run by Graham and Kathy Tew who have been in the childcare industry since 1993. Located a short distance from Indooroopilly shopping centre and Taringa train station, York Street provides child care services to Indooroopilly, St Lucia, Taringa, Chapel Hill and surrounding suburbs.

We provide a friendly environment where children feel secure, and where you as the parent feel supported. Every child welcomed into York Street Early Education is respected and given every opportunity to develop. You can read more about our centre goals, including our philosophy here.

Our centre has two air-conditioned classrooms that are filled with natural light and are brightly coloured to create an engaging and welcoming environment for children. Both classrooms are well-resourced with plenty of options for kids of all interests. Our outside areas are immaculate and provide a safe environment for active play. If you’d like to see our grounds and classroom, please look at our photo gallery.

Our Aim

  • We create a home away from home, where children feel comfortable and free to express themselves, while learning through play.
  • We support and make a real difference to the lives of all families by providing outstanding facilities.
  • We focus on the development and education of children from 6 weeks to school age and specialise in a Readiness for School program.

Choose a Child Care Centre That’s the Right Fit for You

When it comes to choosing the right child care centre, it’s never too early to start looking. Whether you’re looking for a day a week, so you can get some errands done child-free, or if you’re returning to work and need care for these days, you need to know that your child will have a place confirmed at the centre you have chosen.

At York Street Early Education, we welcome parents and children to come along and see what a day at York Street Early Education is like – and in fact, we encourage it. We know that your child’s care is important to you, and we want to make sure we’re the right fit for you and your family.

When you come visit us, feel free to ask lots of questions, and let us know any concerns you may have about your child.

As an independent child care centre, we have the freedom to adapt the curriculum based on the individual needs of the children we care for. While we of course adhere to government guidelines for care (and we offer Government Approved Kindergarten Programs), we do have a little more flexibility. So, if your child has particular needs, or if they need a little extra care, ask us – we may just be able to help you.

Finally, if you decide that we are the child care centre for you – that’s wonderful. We currently have limited vacancies and are accepting enquiries. So please don’t delay in getting in touch – we would love to meet you and your family.

A Good Goodbye – Helping Your Child Feel Comfortable in Child Care

There is a natural separation that occurs the first time your child goes into child care and you leave them for the day. When it first happens, it can be highly distressing for both you and your child. There’s a natural, strong and secure attachment that is the very foundation of your child’s well-being, and your presence is important to your child – especially in new situations. They look to you as a familiar and comfortable person who makes them feel safe.

We make sure to manage any distress that children have about separation and work with you to ensure that everyone’s experience at York Street is a positive one. We encourage you to share your ideas about what may help your child to feel more comfortable, and we can arrange for a settling in period where you and your child can gradually decrease the amount of time you spend saying goodbye. A positive separation is a very important part of child care and your child’s development and can contribute to their resilience, independence and sense of agency.

Here are some tips to make leaving child care that little bit easier:

  1. Start to discuss the transition by talking to your child about where different people go during the day and why they go there.
  2. Talk about the sorts of things your child will see and do at child care.
  3. Read some stories about child care, and use these mediums to show your child how childcare
  4. Visit the childcare. At York Street we welcome you to come along for a short period of time where your child can get used to the environment.
  5. Use a transitioning object like a blanket, a toy or a book that the child loves. You might like to take something along to show the child care workers; because this can focus your child on something positive and can be a tool to decrease anxiety at the time of separation.
